IT Knowledge Base: How to use plain vanilla windows to copy music from ipod to computer?

Follow the steps listed below:

Connect your iPod.
Close iTunes.
Open Windows Explorer.
Enable “Show Hidden Files and Folders” in Windows Explorer. Refer to this link for Windows XP. Refer to this link for Windows Vista.
Browse the Ipod in your windows explorer.
The iPod will be assigned a drive name.
Open the folder “iPod_Control\Music.”
Copy the music files into your HDD.
